Patumwan Demonstration School (PDS), the first co-educational secondary school in Thailand, was founded on 26th December, 1953. PDS serves as one of the most famous laboratory schools attached to the faculty of Education, Srinakharinwirot University. PDS is in the front rank of Thailand’s secondary schools and is accredited by the Office of the Higher Education Commission, Ministry of Education. Located in the heart of Bangkok, PDS is a six-year public school enrolling around 2,152 students in grades 7-12. In 2019 academic year, the number of students in grade 7-9 is 1,243 and that in grade 10-12 is about 909.
PDS consists of two programs: the Regular Program (RP) and the English Program for Talented Students (EPTS). The EPTS was established in 1997. The school grade 7 students’ admission examination is in March and yearly 350 positions are allocated in the RP whereas 70 positions in the EPTS. The core curriculum is composed of eight subjects based on the National Curriculum mandated by the Ministry of Education: Thai Language, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Health Education, Art, Career and ICT, and Foreign Languages. All academic courses in the RP are taught in Thai excluding foreign languages. In the EPTS, English is used as the medium in teaching Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Health Education, and English including French. The EPTS English immersive courses are conducted by qualified foreign instructors.
