Please wish Ponn, Mint, and Kong from M5 good luck at the 22nd World Schools Debating Championships in Doha, Qatar.  The trio are representatives for Thailand on the National Debate Team.  The team is coached by Phra Chainarong who is also an Ajarn in the EPTS Program. Ajarn Gia is the manager and will also attend the championships.

The first World Schools Debating Championships were held in Australia in 1988. The event attracted participants from Australia, Canada, England, Hong Kong, New Zealand and the United States. In 1990 the second championship was held in Canada, ever since then it has been an annual event, hosted each year in a different country, usually by a national debating body. Recent venues include Calgary, Cardiff, Seoul, Washington DC, and in 2009 Athens.

Participating teams are made up of the nation’s top five debaters, often selected after a long series of local, regional, and national debate events. The World Schools Debating Championships celebrates and exemplifies the achievements of youth in the global community who strive to make the world a better place through open articulate communication and shared experiences.

On December 14th students and teachers attended an informative seminar about the Stanford University High School Summer College presented by Charles Junkerman (Associate Provost and Dean).  Noon (M5/340) attended the Stanford program during the past year and gave a talk about her experiences at Stanford.  The program is unique in that it allows high school students to take university courses and receive college credits.

The website describes the program--"Summer at Stanford invites you to experience the thrill of campus life at one of the world's premier universities. Our unique programs balance challenging academics with educational and social activities to produce a well rounded summer of personal challenge and growth. Bicycling or running in the foothills, playing tennis or golf, enjoying the Stanford Summer Theater or Jazz Festival, attending the Science Lecture Series - all are pieces of the intricate puzzle that you build for yourself while you're here for the summer. The campus atmosphere is informal year-round."
